Amanda
Amanda Robinson, Head Stylist and Owner of NAS, is a gifted hair artist and licensed master barber with more than 25 years of creative expertise. Her approach to hairstyling shows a strong regard for technique, but also a more tactile and intuitive treatment of hair – an experience of “cutting by feeling” rather than adhering to formulaic methodology. Amanda specializes in the sculpting and shaping of hair through innovative dry cuts, razor cutting, creative color, and strand by strand extensions. She is also a master-tamer of the ever-defiant curly coiff. She combines techniques learned in her formal training (Davines, Difiaba, Hairdreams, Bumble and Bumble, Redken, and Michael O’Rourke of Sexy Hair Concepts) with original treatments developed through imaginative experimentation.
An avid traveler, Amanda has wandered much of the globe, cutting-shears-in-hand. The experience gained during her journeys (from an upscale salon in Finland to renegade haircuts in Berlin warehouses) is a constant source of inspiration and has added a diverse richness and a flair for artistic shape-shifting to her work. Amanda is also a skilled creator of avant-garde runway styles, and has added her artistic touch to fashion shows, hair shows, photo shoots and performances locally, in New York City, Milan and Reykjavik. She continues to grow and learn as a stylist by attending hair shows and seminars across the country, and studying at the Bumble and Bumble Institute in New York.
In the years since Amanda began on her path as an entrepreneur, she and the New Age Salon have garnered an impressive collection of honors and recognition, including Artvoice’s Best Salon award in 2005 (an award for which NAS has been nominated nearly every year since), a young entrepreneur spotlight in Business First, and business features in Artvoice, Buffalo Rising, local Icelandic publications and the Buffalo Spree.
